International Reports Impacting Policy and Perception in U.S. Baby and Femcare Markets

A flurry of attacks this past year on the safety of absorbent hygiene products is impacting the markets in both Europe and the United States. The Center for Baby and Adult Hygiene Products (BAHP), the trade association representing the North American absorbent hygiene products industry, will provide an overview of how these international reports, such as the French Agency for Food, Environmental and Occupational Health & Safety (ANSES), are specifically affecting the diaper and feminine menstrual products markets in the United States. Most of these reports have focused on substances used in the manufacturing process of these products and transparency surrounding those ingredients. As a result, the industry has experienced a change in U.S. policy and markets. Consumers’ desires for safer and more sustainable products have resulted in policy initiatives aimed at increasing the transparency of how and with what these products are made. This discussion will examine how these programs have changed the landscape of the U.S. market and the overall conversation within the value chain.
